New Ideas Coming For More Detroit Riverfront Redevelopment

DETROIT (AP) - Efforts to further redevelop an eastern portion of the Detroit riverfront are moving forward.

The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy and Detroit's planning department are hosting meetings Tuesday and Wednesday in which seven firms will present their qualifications in hopes of being selected to develop a comprehensive plan for the East Riverfront District.

The area is being transformed for residential, business and recreation use from blighted, formerly industrial property. New developments are expected to house thousands of people.

The public is invited to attend. Organizers note many of these types of presentations for other projects often are held behind closed doors.

The seven finalists were selected from among 24 submissions by local and national teams. The winning team will be announced in February.

[Presentations run until 5:15 p.m. EST on Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. EST on Wednesday at the Outdoor Adventure Center, located near the Detroit River. Details and RSVP HERE].
