Schools Remain Open, Tensions High As Police Investigate Widespread Threats

LAKE ORION (WWJ) - Several local schools are reassuring parents and students about their safety, in the wake of recent threats that are still under investigation by multiple police agencies.

The threats were made Monday on social media, targeting a dozen local schools in metro Detroit as well as schools in other states. The threats were nearly identical with a few changes regarding school names or initials.

The threats are similar to others received across the country, but investigators say they do not appear to be credible.

Lake Orion High School Superintendent Marion Ginopolis said the school will be open Tuesday with extensive sheriff presence.

"We will do everything possible to make sure our students' safety and wellbeing is a number one priority," Ginopolis said in a statement.

Roseville High School administrators also issued statement saying local police and Homeland Security are investigating the threats, including "a second threat" made specifically to RHS. Arrests have been made in relation to that threat, according to reports.

Romulus High School, which received a "generic threat," said it is also partnering with police to ensure students, staff and residents are safe.

Similar threats were made against Warren-Lincoln High, Cass Tech High and Ann Arbor schools.

Anyone who might have information on the threats is urged to contact your local police department or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
