97.1 The Ticket's Terry Foster first broke the story that Calvin Johnson was thinking about retiring from the NFL.

After the story appeared on CBSDetroit.com, Johnson issued the following statement, "Like many players at this stage of their career, I am currently evaluating options for my future. I would expect to have a decision regarding this matter in the not-too-distant future."

The Detroit News spoke with Johnson's agent, Bus Cook, in Alabama about Johnson's situation.

"He's tired, his body's tired," Cook told The Detroit News after a Senior Bowl practice at Fairhope Municipal Park. "In due time, he'll make his decision."

Doug Karsch from the Karsch and Anderson show has an interesting conspiracy theory about Calvin Johnson and it goes as follows:

"The story on Calvin Johnson before this came out that he was considering retirement, is what was going to happen with his contract, right? Karsch said. "That includes a restructuring, that might mean that Calvin makes less money next year to make a contract that is more cap friendly."

"Is it possible, Gator, as a part of a shrewd business move?" Karsch continued, "Calvin's thought is, they're gonna mess with my money, maybe I won't play with the idea that the only thing that will bring him back is them [Lions] saying 'Hey look, we know you're talking about walking away, Caldwell's back and we know you like that. We're not going to touch your contract' -- that it's really just part of a negotiating ploy."

"People think that Calvin is just this kind of a saint who wouldn't be up to any shenanigans or games and I actually kind of believe that as well, but it is a business and it is a job for him. Is it possible that it is just a negotiating plan?"

You can listen to the entire segment below.

We want to know: What do you think? Does Doug have a point with this conspiracy theory?
