Al Golden Hired As Lions Tight Ends Coach

ALLEN PARK (CBS Detroit) -- The Detroit Lions announced Monday that former University of Miami and Temple University coach Al Golden will be the new tight ends coach on Jim Caldwell's coaching staff.

Golden joins the Lions after being fired in the middle of the Hurricanes' 2015 campaign. He was relieved of his duties following a 58-0 loss to Clemson in October.

Golden spent more than four seasons as the head man in Miami, tallying a record of 32-25.

The position on Caldwell's staff opened up when the Lions made some mid-season coaching changes in 2015.

Former tight ends coach Ron Prince took over as the offensive line coach, while special teams assistant Devin Fitzsimmons coached the tight ends for the remainder of the season.

Golden played tight end at Penn State from 1987-1991 and played in the NFL with the Patriots in 1992.
