10-Year-Old Michigan Girl Killed In Crash On Way To School; 3 Others Injured
SULLIVAN TWP. (CBS Detroit) - A 10-year-old girl is dead and three others — including her teen siblings — are hospitalized following a crash, Thursday morning, in west Michigan.
It happened at around 7:30 a.m., according to Michigan State Police, along Ravenna Rd. in Sullivan Township, east of Muskegon.
Police said the girl, her 16-year-old brother and her 18-year-old sister were on their way to school when their vehicle hit an oncoming westbound car.
The 18-year-old was driving, according to WOOD-TV, and was trying to pass the other car when she lost control. She, her brother, and a third person in the other car suffered unknown injuries.
Police said the 10-year-old girl, who was in the backseat, and was not wearing a seatbelt. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
There was snow on the ground at the time of the accident, although it was not immediately clear if slick road conditions played a role.
A spokesperson for the Ravenna Public Schools told WWJ's Beth Fisher that grief counselors were being made available to students and staff in the district, where all three siblings attended.
No names were immediately released.
