Local Bakery Puts Spin On Fat Tuesday With Cheesecake, Liquor Infused Margarita Paczkis

OAK PARK (WWJ) - One metro Detroit bakery is whipping up a treat for paczki purists this Fat Tuesday by putting their own spin on the traditional pastry.

Peteet's Famous Cheesecakes, located in Oak Park and West Bloomfield, is offering a full range of fruit filled cheesecake paczkis for Fat Tuesday. And for customers looking to spice it up a notch, liquor infused margarita paczkis will also be available.

Cheesecake and margaritas aren't usually the first things that pop into minds when contemplating paczki flavors, but that doesn't mean these aren't authentic pastries.

Last year, the former owner of Sunny Side Bakery in Hamtramck, Borivoji Stameski, shared his secret paczki recipe with Patrick Peteet before retiring and closing his beloved business. Stameski also sold his specialized paczki baking equipment to the younger baker.

"I'm honored that Borivoji passed the baton to me," Peteet said in a statement. "Using the new authentic recipe allows us to share an important part of this region's culinary history with our customers, and continue the legacy of paczkis artisan baking. While you can go anywhere to get paczkis, only at Peteet's Famous Cheesecake can you get cheesecake paczkis."
