Terry Foster: On A Day Michigan Struck Gold, Michigan State Struck Silver

Do you like glitz to go with your blitz?

Or are you into old family values?

Do you like old time rock and roll or are you more into new school funk and rap?

There are two ways to skin a cat and the divide between Michigan and Michigan State football grew wider on national signing day even though they are headed in the same direction.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has taken the college football world by storm and we saw it with a star-studded production on the Michigan campus that nearly equaled the star-studded recruits that are coming to Ann Arbor. He landed the No. 1 recruit in the nation along with talented players of every shape, size and speed. It was a top five or 10 class in the nation depending on what magazine or recruiting site you read. I am excited to see who stays and who goes, who shines and who becomes depth players.

If you are a Wolverine fan, you should walk around like a bad ass.

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio did not take the college world by storm. However, the Spartans' football team will continue to rock the college football world. He did not stage a major production or get the national headlines. He did not get the Flair. Michigan did. The Spartans are the little engine that could and they will continue to work over the Big Ten just as Ohio State and Michigan will. The Spartans did not land the biggest recruit in the nation, but they landed more four stars than ever which should keep them in the Big Ten hunt.

If you are a Spartan fan, you should walk around like a bad ass.

Michigan fans who believe State will disappear are not paying attention. On a day Michigan struck gold, State struck silver. And as many of us know Dantonio finds a way to polish up copper coins into precious metal that turns into medals for his program. Now what is he going to do with stars of his own?

I cannot tell you what will happen with the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry in the coming years. But I can tell you this. The Wolverines will make the Spartans sweat and uncomfortable. And MSU will do the same to the Wolverines.

For a guy like me who does not care, this is going to be a wonderful war between Dantonio and Harbaugh and blue and green and white.

Harbaugh will continue do new and innovative things. Dantonio will continue to drive that old engine and guess what? Both ways will work.

** A couple weeks ago I wrote a series on my neighbor Don Muirhead who is entering the later stages of ALS. One of the things he does is paint his toe nails red to bring attention to the disease. I will do the same during a Sunday fundraiser at Complete Beauty Salon and Spa, 7275 Cooley Lake Road in Commerce Township during their " Rednails for ALS." fundraiser from 10 am to 3 pm.
It would mean a lot to Don if you could stop by, get your toes painted red or donate.

If you cannot attend you can donate in Don's name at Http://web.alsa.org/goto/Rednailsforals. There is also a Facebook page devoted to the drive.
