Commercials During Super Bowl: 'It's Like The Oscars Of Advertising'

DETROIT (WWJ) - Some people get together just to watch the Super Bowl game, but one advertising professor at Michigan State says commercials are a big draw too.

MSU advertising professor Bob Kolt says this is like the Oscars in advertising field. "It's the biggest night of the year and Madison Avenue puts on their best spot."

"I think the auto sector will be the best in class this year, they've got a lot of good product," says Kolt.

In recent years, he says, a new marketing strategy has emerged where companies will release some ads ahead of game-time.

"That's a good thing, you want the people to see the ads and make a sale, especially if there is a lot of good production," Kolt says.

It's expected that more than 150 million will tune in to view the Super Bowl, many of the 'barely interested' tune in simply to watch the ads.
