Detroit Dog Rescue Hosts FREE Vaccination Clinic Friday

DETROIT (WWJ) - Just in time for Valentine's Day, dog lovers can show love to their pets by protecting them from deadly diseases.

Detroit Dog Rescue and V.I.P Pet Care will host "The Have a Heart, Save a Heart Pre-Valentine's Day FREE Vaccination Clinic" for dogs, on Friday, Feb. 12, at Pet Supplies Plus.

Kristina Rinaldi, Executive Director of Detroit Dog Rescue said this is a first-of-its-kind event in the city of Detroit.

She encourages all dog owners who haven't had their pets vaccinated to get it done.

"If you don't vaccinate your pet, you're just opening them up to so many possibilities to get sick," Rinaldi told WWJ's Chrystal Knight. "So by vaccinating them, for free, you're definitely protecting your pet."

"The gift of health is the best thing you can give for Valentine's Day."

Rinaldi says they've seen an increase in dogs with Parvo — a deadly virus.

"It's treatment is very expensive and a lot of dogs don't even make it, even with treatment," she said. "All of these can be prevented by vaccinating your dog."

The clinic runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Pet Supplies Plus, 18956 Livernois in Detroit.

Inoculations for rabies, parvo, lepto and bordetella will be performed on-site, free to Detroiters with proof of residency such as a driver's license or state identification, Other services available include microchip identification ($15) and heartworm/Lyme testing ($29).
