Mother Who Tried To Cover Up 18-Month-Old Son's Death Sentenced To Prison

CLINTON TWP. (WWJ/AP) - A Macomb County will serve five to 20 years in prison in the death of her 18-month-old son.

Brandee Wright, 23, received her sentence last week after pleading guilty in January to involuntary manslaughter and child abuse, according to the Macomb Daily. She is expected to testify against her boyfriend, William Mark Warren III, at his April trial.

Amere Carver, Wright's son from a previous relationship, was found unresponsive in August in a Clinton Township apartment, northeast of Detroit. He died two days later of head trauma and other injuries.

The boy was in Warren's care at the time, according to police. When Wright returned to the apartment and found the child limp and unresponsive, police say she asked another roommate to help cover up the incident by lying about who had been watching Amere at the time.

The 23-year-old Warren is charged with felony murder and child abuse.
