Michigan Legislature, State Offices Closed Due To Snow

LANSING (WWJ/AP) - Michigan lawmakers have canceled voting and committee hearings in Lansing, and Gov. Rick Snyder has closed state offices in 51 counties because of emergency snow conditions.

Offices are scheduled to re-open Friday after Thursday's closures.

Nonessential state employees in counties with a declared winter storm warning will not report to work so crews can clear the roads. Certain offices will remain open for critical functions only.

Legislators began canceling committee meetings Wednesday afternoon because of the snow. Many state offices also were closed early on Wednesday.

State offices in Wayne, Washtenaw and Monroe counties are still open.
