Does Warmup Spell The End Of Winter For Metro Detroit?

DETROIT (WWJ) - Temperatures in metro Detroit will be flirting with 70 degrees Tuesday, leaving many to wonder if winter is over.

All signs are pointing toward yes, according to CBS 62 Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus.

"We've got a warm front moving way up to our north so we have unseasonably warm air here in Detroit," said Madaus. "We are looking of a high Tuesday around 65 degrees. The normal temperature for this time of year is around 42."

That mild weather is here to stay, said Madaus, and it's also going to get wet.

"After mid 60s today, we'll see mid- to low-60s Wednesday with rain," he said. "Rain possible again on Thursday with a high of 59, and another slight chance for a shower on Friday with a high around 51."

It's hard to predict what the weather is going to be like for the rest of the month, but forecasters say they don't expect temperatures to go below the 40s -- all but signaling the end of wither for metro Detroit.
