Cop Investigating Daughter's Cell Phone Theft Ends Up Getting Jail Time

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A St. Clair Shores police sergeant who found the men who stole his daughter's cell phone will spend six months in jail.

Michael Notoriano was convicted of willful neglect of duty earlier this year. Wayne County Judge Timothy Kenny went above guidelines in his sentencing.

He was cleared of armed robbery, assault and ethnic intimidation charges stemming from the July 2013 incident in which his 16-year-old daughter was robbed of her cell phone.

Investigators say Notoriano and Detroit police sergeant David Pomeroy traced the cell phone and confronted three men over the theft.

Pomeroy was sentenced to probation for failing to uphold the law.
