Don't Wait to Sharpen Your Parenting Skills, March is Parent Awareness Month

By Sharlonda Buckman, CEO, Detroit Parent Network

Guess what, it's Parent Awareness Month! We all know that kids don't come with instructions, something we have heard many times. So how do we get really good at parenting?

A commitment to continue to learn about great parenting practices and developmental stages for your children is the best way to sharpen your skills.

This Saturday, Detroit Parent Network will host its 12th Annual Family Engagement Conference for parent members at the Michigan Science Center with Carmen N'Namdi; a renounced education leader among many other titles will be delivering a keynote address focused on resetting the course for how our families can be successful in this current societal landscape!

There will also be multiple workshops focused on raising boys and girls; cyber parenting, education accountability and much more! While parents get smarter, children can engage in multiple learning activities during "Brain Day" at the Science Center. One way for parents to strengthen their parenting skills is through a network of parent support. Since this month is Parent Awareness Month there are many other things we can do or take advantage of to sharpen our parenting skills.

The bottom line is, children don't ask to be here, but they certainly count on us to help them develop and grow through how we parent and engage in their lives.
