New Marathon Motivates Runners With Cheesecake At Finish Line

FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - This new fun run really takes the cake -- as in cheesecake.

This April 17 will be the first Kona Cheesecake run, with 5k, 8k, and one mile options.  It'll be held at the Farmington YMCA.

Alan Whitehead, with the Kona Running Company, says their races usually have food or seasonal themes -- and he's glad that cheesecake is now on their menu.

"Because we already have a chocolate run, we already have a strawberry run, you know, what do people really like that's a treat after you run and reward yourself and we thought well, the new Cheesecake Factory is right down the road," Whitehead told WWJ's Scott Ryan.

Whitehead isn't revealing all the types of cheesecake at the finish line just yet -- you'll have to wait until race day for the full list.

"The cheesecake, we're not revealing that right now but I'll give you a hint, there will be a strawberry cheesecake flavor," he said. " And we know bling is very important today, and so the medal will be a marathon size medal with the logo on it.

In addition to the medal and cheesecake treats, participating runners will also received a Tech Shirt with their registration, which costs between $22 and $48 depending on race options.
