Concert Raises Money For Victim Of Kalamazoo-Area Shootings

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Organizers say a concert has raised about $18,000 for a young mother who was shot multiple times during a southwestern Michigan shooting rampage that killed six.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports Monday the Friday night gospel show at Kalamazoo's Galilee Baptist Church drew roughly 1,500 people. Organizer Jermaine Jackson says more money is coming from sales of T-shirts and concert DVDs.

The money will be directed to a fund for Tiana Carruthers, the first person shot in the Feb. 20 spree across the Kalamazoo area. Members of Carruthers' family attended the concert and she appeared via video to thank everyone for their support.

The show featured music from various individuals and groups as well as a mime act.
