Conference Looks To Make Michigan's Roads Safer

EAST LANSING (AP) — A three-day gathering in East Lansing will focus on efforts to reduce traffic deaths and injuries in Michigan.

The 2016 Michigan Traffic Safety Summit runs from Tuesday through Thursday at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center. It's sponsored by the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning and is supported by federal traffic safety funds.

Twenty-eight workshops are planned on topics such as distracted and impaired driving, self-driving cars, changing traffic patterns and how parents affect driving behavior.

Also planned are "town hall" sessions involving an update of the state's Strategic Highway Safety Plan. It's designed to identify Michigan's top safety needs and guide investment decisions in ways that will make the roads less deadly.
