Detroit City Council Extends Golf Course Management Contract For Another Year

DETROIT (WWJ) - It looks like city of Detroit-owned golf courses will be open on time this spring after action taken by city council Tuesday afternoon.

Detroit City Council members voted to extend the management contract by one year to Vargo Golf Detroit, the company that currently managing the city's four courses so that they can open on time reports WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis.

Members also voted to redo the bidding process in selecting a new management company. Golf Professional and Instructor Lindsey Mason, whose company lost out on the bid, raised questions about the bidding process.

And says he'll likely re-bid after talking with his team.

Mason says all four courses need capital improvements and his company is prepared to make those upgrades with a five or 10 year contract.
