The Snack Attack: Cheetos Sweetos Are Pretty Much The Best Thing Ever

Welcome to The Snack Attack -- a new daily feature on CBSDetroit.com that centers around all things food.

We'll be bringing you the latest in snacking news, taste-testing the newest fast-food items, and just sharing our love of snacking in general. We'll even have special editions featuring things you can only get in the metro Detroit area, and let you know which snacks you just can't pass up.

But first, a little about me. Why should you trust my snacking prowess anyhow? My name is Stephanie and like Bobby Bognar (former host of Food Tech), I've been eating my whole life. I'm literally obsessed with snacks -- my friends will tell you my favorite foods are chips and candy, and nothing is off-limits. Some might even call me their resident snack expert but let's be clear about one thing -- I'm no foodie. Yes, I love food. Yes, I want it in my belly -- all of it. But I'm not some pretentious reviewer who needs aioli and Siracha sauce to give something my stamp of approval -- which, I should add, doesn't just get handed out all willy nilly. "Eatie" would be a more appropriate classification.

I'm not afraid to try new things, even if I know I won't like it. Maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment but I try to let my mouth have a mind of its own. That being said, I don't like weird concoctions. Peanut butter and jelly hot dog? Forget about it. Miracle Whip waffles? No way. Steak and cheese milkshake? Just stop.

So, welcome to our adventures in snacking. I'm glad to have you along for the journey. And you're always welcome to share your input. Know of a new snack we should attack? Send me an email and I'll be sure to add it to the list. No lyin'.

Review: Cheetos Sweetos

Hello down there! (Credit: CBSDetroit.com)

Cheetos introduced these sweet snacks last year and since then, my world hasn't been the same. If you think cinnamon toast is the only way anyone should eat bread, you're going to love these. They are literally the BEST thing ever. Imagine a cinnamon twist from Taco Bell -- only buttery and better.

I'm the type of person who likes to snack right out of the bag -- hey, no need to dirty a dish. But that can get dangerous because it's hard to stop shoving these Easter egg-shaped puffs in my mouth. The phrase "Once you start, you can't stop," couldn't hold more true when it comes to Sweetos.

The only good thing about having an empty bag of Sweetos is being able to lick the cinnamon powder dust off the inside of the bag. No shame in my game.

The worst thing about Sweetos is they're only available for a limited time. Jerks. When I came across them in stores earlier this month, I busted out a happy dance in the middle of the aisle. True story. Last year, Sweetos were sold during Easter and Christmas. Both versions tasted exactly the same, but the Christmas ones were shaped like a circle. Maybe Frito-Lay will expand their horizons this year.

Appearance: The shiny purple bag invites snackers to rip it open and dig right in. The light and airy puffs are shaped like Easter eggs with a little squiggle design and are just the right size to eat in one bite. The puffs are generously dusted with cinnamon and sugar powder and much like other chips, there are a few magical puffs in the bag that seem to have triple the coating.

Aroma: Personally, I would think something that is cinnamon flavored would smell a lot more like cinnamon. Buttery was the first word that popped into my mind when I took a big whiff of the bag.

Taste: Delightfully sweet. The texture of the puff is just like a regular Cheeto, which is a little strange at first considering the sweetness. After the cinnamon sugar tingles your tastebuds, you get a flavor of warm butter. This right here is next level stuff, people. The flavors don't stay in your mouth very long, which is why they're so hard to stop eating once you start -- because they're irresistable!

Pros: Buttery cinnamon-sugar toast flavor has just the right amount of sweetness with a strong taste of cinnamon that's not overpowering. The perfect snack when you want something sweet but light at the same time.

Cons: The bag isn't big enough. Could use more flavoring.

Rating: 9 out of 10
