"Hardcore Pawn" Shop Is Hiring; Job Fair Friday

DETROIT (WWJ) - The "Help Wanted" sign is up at a world-famous Detroit pawn shop.

American Jewelry & Loan — at the center of the hit reality TV show "Hardcore Pawn" — is looking to hire some additional staff.

President Les Gold says they're holding their first-ever job fair on Friday. He told WWJ Newsradio 950's Zahra Huber they're looking to fill all kinds of positions including manager trainees, warehouse people, jewelry sales, electronics sales and loan processors.

"We have about 50 employees currently; we're looking for 20 more," Gold said. "The reason for that is we're thinking about expanding in the city and the surrounding areas."

He expects about 100 to 200 people to apply.

Gold said it's possible that those hired could show up on the TV show, but those who don't want to be on TV won't be on TV. (He already has employees who do not appear).

The number one qualification? Enthusiasm.

"We need people who are energetic and really have a passion for success!" Gold said. "We will be hiring on the spot if we see qualified individuals that look like they'll have that drive and desire, we'll hire them on the spot, and they can start on Monday."

"I'm not looking for somebody who wants to be a TV star," he stressed.

The job fair runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 25, at the American Jewelry & Loan Detroit location, 20450 Greenfield, near the Lodge.
