Stepdad Talks About Son Killed In Detroit Hit And Run Incident

DETROIT (WWJ) - The father of a teen who was killed in a hit and run accident in Detroit last October laid eyes on the suspect for the first time since the death of his stepson 16-year-old Michael Yost Jr.

Nineteen-year-old William Worthy was in court Thursday on charges including leaving the scene of an accident, causing death. Marlin Franklin says the charges against Worthy should be more severe.

"I looked at him and I thought I spend a lot of my time talking to the youth about their decision making and about their actions and about thier future, and I wish I could have gotten to him before he killed my son," said Franklin.

He says he's concerned with the charges.

"They initially charged him with what I believe to be a minor charge where he was able to bond out. It would be nice to see murder charges," said Franklin.

Worthy also faces receiving stolen property charges, for allegedly being in a stolen car at the time of the accident -- as well as driving on a suspended license.

A preliminary hearing is set in this case for next week.
