Public Input Wanted On Detroit Area 'Rapid Bus Transit' Plan

DETROIT (WWJ) - Would you consider catching a ride to work instead of driving?

The Rapid Transit Authority is holding meetings this week to share their ideas for a Rapid Bus Transit system — with dedicated lines along Gratiot, Woodward and Michigan avenues to and from downtown Detroit.

Tim Thibideau, a long-time commuter on a Park-And-Ride bus out of Farmington Hills, hopes metro Detoiters will keep an open mind about the idea.

"People here tend to like their cars, right? Everybody likes to drive their cars...but once you take this a little while, you get used to it and like it better, prefer it to driving," Thibideau said.

Another faithful Park-And-Ride commuter says it saves her both money and stress. She'd love to see others take advantage.

"Drivers have gotten ridiculous — they don't care. I think it would save a lot. Those angry people need to get on the bus," she said.

Public meeting dates/times and locations are as follows:

  • Tues., March 29, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Aloft Detroit at The David Whitney, 1 Park Ave, Detroit
