Packed Poker Room In Taylor Held Up By Masked Gunmen

TAYLOR (WWJ) - A tournament was taking place at a popular poker room Downriver when two masked gunmen stormed inside and demanded all the money.

The incident happened just after 12 a.m. Friday at Momo's Poker Room on Telegraph Road just south of Van Born Road in Taylor.

A charity poker tournament was taking place at the time, and reports describe the business as being "packed full" of patrons.

Police say the masked suspects entered the room with guns drawn and ordered everyone inside to lay face-down on the floor.

"They announced that they were robbing the location. They did have patrons get on the floor as they were robbing the location, and they were demanding money from the location and the patrons," Police Chief Mary Sclabassi told WWJ's Charlie Langton.

The robbers made off with upwards of $1,000, according to police.

No shots were fired and no one was injured.

"Obviously, many of the people were traumatized," said Sclabassi. "This was a traumatizing event this morning."

The suspects remain at large. Both are described as white males wearing blue face masks.

"We also have information that these two [suspects] may have been in the location prior to this, perhaps playing cards," said Sclabassi.

Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage for more information.

The poker room boasts it holds "BIG tournaments, GREAT payouts, LIVE action cash!" with proceeds benefitting local charities.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 734-287-6611.
