MADD To Host Support Group For Those Affected By Horrors Of Drunk Driving Crashes
TROY (WWJ) -- Mothers Against Drunk Driving will be hosting a support group for those who may be grieving over the loss of a loved one.
State program director of MADD Michigan Tyler MacEachran says losing someone in a drunk driving crash is sudden, and the grieving and healing process is sometimes very difficult even after years have passed.
"People that haven't experienced it can be compassionate, but they can't understand," MacEachran said. "You will never be the same again, but you can find happiness and you can find meaning in life. So [the] support groups that we're expanding is one vehicle for that."
MADD is one of the largest victim service organizations in the world, says MacEachran.
"In MADD Michigan, we're making great efforts to create more and more opportunities for victims of drunk driving, people that have lost loved ones, people that have had their mobility or just quality of life permanently impacted; to have opportunities for them to share with each other, for them to help each other heal,"MacEachran said.
The support group will be run by a trained facilitator who will help attendees through a different topic each month.
The support group will meet on the first Tuesday of every month from April until July from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the City of Troy Recreation Center.
