Spring Storm Leaves Snow, Icy Roads Across Parts Of Michigan

GRAYLING, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - It's no secret that we've been experiencing some wacky weather in the mitten over the last couple of weeks. Mlive dot com's Chief Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa makes sense of it all:

"April is one of your most volatile months," says Torregrossa. "You have spring - summer temperatures to the south of Michigan, winter temperatures to the north. And that's what it is, we're on the dividing line right now - which puts Michigan in the storm track."

Torregrossa says we'll be in a "colder than normal" pattern for the next 10 days -- but we could see "warmer than normal" temperatures during the second half of April.

National Weather Service meteorologist Scott Rozansky in the Grayling office says about seven inches of snow has fallen in the Traverse City and Grayling areas and that more could fall by the end of Sunday.

Winter storm warnings have been issued for a number of areas, including Grand Rapids and Michigan's Thumb region. Rain is expected in Detroit.

Rozansky says a stronger system, packing more snow is expected to move into Michigan around midweek.

Some highways and roads across the state were icy as temperatures dipped below freezing.

The Saginaw News reports that northbound traffic on Interstate 75 at the Zilwaukee Bridge in Saginaw County was stopped for a time Saturday night following a crash.
