New Baseball League Playing In Metro Detroit To Hold Tryouts

UTICA (WWJ/AP) - A new baseball league that will play in the Detroit area will hold tryouts as it gears up for its first season.

Tryouts for the United Shore Professional Baseball League will be held May 16-19. Brian Berryman, executive director of baseball operations with the league, told The Macomb Daily that tryouts will be one way players are obtained.

The league will have three teams in its first season: the Utica Unicorns, the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers and the Eastside Diamond Hoppers. The schedule is set to run 75 games and games will be played at Jimmy John's Field, which is under construction just west of downtown Utica.

Tryouts cost $200 per player to attend. For the league's first season, players must be at least 18 years old and born on or after Jan. 1, 1990.
