Officer Suffers Medical Emergency Behind Wheel Of Cruiser, Crashes Into Harper Woods Home

HARPER WOODS (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are investigating after a Harper Woods police cruiser crashed into a house on Saturday afternoon.

Police told WWJ Newsradio 950 that the officer suffered a medical emergency before the crash on Woodland between Sanilac and Harper. The officer was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

A resident who lived across the street from the home ran to the scene to assist the officer. No one was inside the home at the time of the incident.

Martin VanDyke of Harper Woods was out walking and saw the entire crash unfold.

"It's a really wicked-looking crash and it's just the one car, it doesn't look like anyone else or any other car was involved," VanDyke said.

"My god, if anyone was right near the front of that house they would have been killed," VanDyke said. "It's not like a couple of bricks were dislodged, the front of the house is destroyed. The picture window is gone, the porch is destroyed."
