Police: Suspect Broke Into Oakland County Homes To Fuel Drug Addiction
ORION TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities say a 25-year-old man who was caught red-handed breaking into a home in Oakland County said he did it to fuel his drug addiction.
Robert Vaughn Lentz is now facing a charge of second-degree home invasion. He was arraigned Thursday and ordered held on a $10,000 personal bond.
The charges stem from an incident that unfolded around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday after the Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Team identified a suspect believed to be responsible for recent thefts and home invasions in northeastern Oakland County.
Officers began surveillance on the suspect -- Lentz -- who was witnessed approaching several homes in the 500 block of Newman Road in Orion Township and knocking on the doors, according to police.
At one point, police say Lentz was observed returning to his vehicle with household items. Detective's then stopped the vehicle and subsequently took Lentz into custody without incident.
"The homeowner was contacted and confirmed that various powers tools and property located in the suspect's vehicle had been stolen from his residence," police said in a statement.
During questioning, police say Lentz admitted to this and other recent home invasions, saying he committed the crimes to support his drug addiction.
Detectives are continuing with the investigation and reviewing other area crime reports. Additional charges are possible.
