Another Bovine TB Case Detected In Northern Lower Peninsula

MIO, Mich. (AP) - Officials say another case of bovine tuberculosis has been detected in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said Monday the case recently was confirmed in a medium-sized beef cattle herd in Oscoda County.

It's also the 64th cattle herd found to carry the illness since 1998. It's the first herd where bovine TB was announced as confirmed in 2016. The infection was found during routine testing by the state agriculture department and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

A meeting for area cattle producers is scheduled for April 21 in Mio.

Bovine TB is an infectious disease that primarily affects cattle but can be spread between different mammals. Many whitetail deer in northeastern Michigan are carriers.
