3 People, 2 Dogs Killed In Michigan House Explosion And Fire

THETFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP/WWJ) - Authorities are working to determine the cause of multiple explosions and a fire that left three people dead inside a home in northern Genesee County.

The Flint Journal reported investigators planned to sift through the rubble on Friday at the home in the 1300 block of East Lake Road, near North Lewis Road and McCumsey Road in Thetford Township.

Firefighters arrived just before noon Thursday to find the house engulfed in flames. In addition to the people, two dogs also died in the home, according to police.

The names and ages of the three people killed in the fire have not been released, but neighbors told WJTR-TV that 80-year-old man and his wife lived there. The man is said to have used a wheelchair and oxygen.

Thetford Township police Chief Robert Kenny said there were "several explosions" at the home, about 65 miles northwest of Detroit, but he hasn't talked about a possible cause.

The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal is investigating.
