Officials Investigate Suspicious Fire On Detroit's West Side

DETROIT (WWJ) - Despite struggling with low water pressure in a west side Detroit neighborhood, firefighters were able to save possibly an entire block from going up in flames.

Officials say calls started coming in around 5 a.m. Friday about an abandoned home on fire near Richton and 14th streets, not far from the Lodge Freeway.

Fire officials at the scene said the water pressure was only at about 50 percent, but crews managed to extinguish the flames before they spread to neighboring homes.

Bridge Neil, who lives next door to the home that burned, told WWJ's Charlie Langton she thinks she knows who started the blaze: Her brother.

"I put him out of the house and he was mad," she said. "He knew he couldn't burn the house directly, so we went next door. He thinks he's so smart, but he's not. It's just a sad day that family would do this to family. It's a shame."

Neil was interviewed on the scene by arson investigators, who say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
