JACKSON (WWJ) -- After more than a month of searching, police and family members say there is still no sign of what happened to a former Jackson, Michigan man, who disappeared after a night out with friends in southern California.

Air Force veteran Mike Vanzandt, 36, was last seen March 5 at a nightclub in Hermosa Beach, California.

Police have surveillance footage showing Vanzandt outside of the nightclub from that night.

Sgt. Robert Higgens with the Hermosa Beach Police Department said they do not believe foul play is involved in Vanzandt's disappearance because his car and belongings were recovered.

"In today's environment with social media and [being] able to electronically track folks which their financial records and what-have-you, he has literally dropped off the face of the planet using those records," Higgens said. "There's no indication of him anywhere that he's got some activity."

Both family members and police say they also do not believe Vanzandt would have contemplated suicide. Vanzandt's mother, Robyn Gretz, said that the family remains hopeful.

"You're just kind of numb -- you don't know what do,"Gretz said. "[We] rely on friends to kind of help us through it. We're just hoping to hear some news soon."
