1984's 'Purple Rain,' Bio Of Prince's Life To Be Shown At Redford Theatre, MJR Theaters

On the heels of his untimely demise, the Redford Theatre in Detroit and the chain of MJR theaters will honor musical legend Prince by showing the movie "Purple Rain" in the original 8 millimeter format from its initial release in 1984.

For MJR, "Purple Rain" will play at their Southgate and Troy locations in their Epic Experience.

"This is an opportunity for Prince fans to show their respect for this music icon as well as a chance to say good bye," a theater spokesman said.

Prince, who was only 57 was found unresponsive Thursday in his suburban Minneapolis compound.

Steve Overstreet with the Redford Theater says they are also planning to have a pre-show montage of Prince's life.

"It's an arrangement of interesting clips about Prince's life, his music, and it's just going to be that kind of evening," Overstreet said.

Doors open at 6 for the Redford Theatre performance, showtime is at 7. Tickets are $5 and seats are limited.
