Rumor: Name Of New Detroit Red Wings Arena Could Be Revealed Thursday

There's a buzz around town that the name of the new home of the Detroit Red Wings will be revealed on Thursday.

Sources say organizers are ready to make an unspecified "exciting announcement." Considering the Wings were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round, all signs are pointing to a big name reveal.

Officials with Olympia Entertainment declined to comment.

A report in Crain's Detroit speculated that the new stadium might be named Little Caesars Arena. According to the report, an international brokerage firm swooped up the domain name littlecaesarsarena.com from a local businessman earlier this year. It would make sense, because the pizza chain was founded by Red Wings team owners Mike and Marian Ilitch.

In February, Olympia Entertainment registered the trademarks "The Baddest Bowl" and "The Baddest Bowl in Hockey." At that time, the CEO of Ilitch Holdings, Chris Ilitch, said there was a sponsor for the naming rights of the new arena, but he declined to reveal anything else.
