Frost Advisory For Oakland And Macomb Counties Overnight

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Residents in some areas of metro Detroit may want to take some precautions with a Frost Advisory in effect overnight.

The National Weather Service issued the alert for Macomb, Oakland, Livingston and St. Clair counties, in effect from 3 a.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday.

Forecasters say clearing skies and nearly calm winds will lead to areas of frost late Friday night as low temperatures drop predominately into the low to mid 30s.

"Certainly, late April, it's getting to the point now where we're ready, obviously, for summer. We're ready for warmer nights," said WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist John Feerick. "But another chilly night out there tonight...To the north and west, there could be patches of frost."

Those who jumped the gun on planting those annuals take note: Sensitive vegetation may be damaged by frost. The weather service suggests covering outdoor plants — including budding rose bushes and other perennials — which may be killed if left open to the elements.

Feerick said it will warm up a bit, up to around 59 degrees in metro Detroit on Saturday with a little sun in the forecast — before some rain in store Saturday night.

The rain is expected to continue Sunday, especially in the morning, with high temperatures approaching 60 degrees.
