Trouble-Causing Teenagers Impacting Metro Detroit Festivals, Other Events

ST. CLAIR SHORES (AP) -- Rowdy teens are impacting warm weather events in at least two suburban Detroit communities.

The Detroit News reports that Grosse Pointe Woods has chosen to continue cancellation of its summer fireworks display after more than a dozen fights involving teens two years ago.

St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in nearby St. Clair Shores is planning to erect an 8-foot fence to keep unruly teens from disturbing an annual spring festival.

Both cities are just east of Detroit.

Monsignor G. Michael Bugarin says security measures are being put in place by St. Joan of Arc due to fights started by some youth at the event in past years.

The 3-day festival starts May 20 and has been held for 46 years. It is one of the church's major fundraisers.
