Week Of Events To Celebrate Entrepreneurship In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Events begin Monday to promote and celebrate business growth and entrepreneurship in the city of Detroit.

It's part of Detroit Entrepreneur Week, which is in its fourth year.

Ned Staebler, CEO and President of TechTown Detroit, an event sponsor located in Detroit's Midtown, said workshops and panels will be held all week long.

Tuesday panel will focus on social entrepreneurship.

"Later this week we'll be hearing from folks like April Anderson at Good Cakes and Bakes and Sarita Scott of Good People's Popcorn, hearing their stories of how they got up and going," Staebler told WWJ's Zahra Huber. "Aaron Foley will talk about how to pitch your story to the media."

Staebler said 170 small businesses started in Midtown just in the last three years.

"And we really wanna highlight those and showcase them a little bit, celebrate a little bit, and also remind people of the importance of small business," he said.

"I mean, most new job growth comes from small businesses; and, you know, Detroit is one of the cities in the country with the fewest jobs per capita. So, if we're going to change that and have more jobs and opportunity for folks, it's going to come from largely small businesses."
