1 Man, No Kids Hurt When SUV Collides With School Bus In Macomb Township

MACOMB TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A 21-year-old Macomb Township man is hospitalized after his SUV slammed into a school bus on 21 Mile Road.

Macomb County Sheriff's officials said the accident — at around 8 a.m. Thursday, near Parklane Ct. — involved a L'Anse Creuse Public Schools school bus.

The bus was stopped in the roadway to pick up a child, investigators said, when the bus was rear-ended by a 2009 Ford Escape. The bus did have its red flashers activated at the time of the crash.

There were 25 Atwood Elementary School students on the bus at the time of the crash, but none of them were injured.

The driver of the Escape, who was trapped in his vehicle due to the extensive damage, was extricated by fire fighters, taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital, and ticketed for careless driving.

It's unclear how badly he was hurt. His name was not released.
