Low-Flying Helicopters Inspecting Power Lines In Michigan

LANSING (AP) -- Low-flying helicopters are being used to inspect power lines in Michigan.

The flyovers are taking place weather-permitting in part of the Lower Peninsula. The twice-a-year inspections are for ITCTransmission and Michigan Electric Transmission Co. They're looking for damage, wear or other potential problems.

The aerial inspections will cover an area from Lansing, south to the Ohio border and east to the Lake St. Clair area, including all or parts of Ingham, Jackson, Hillsdale, Lenawee, Washtenaw, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, St. Clair, Wayne and Monroe counties.

The flights began in western Michigan on May 2 and will cover nearly all of the Lower Peninsula, concluding in northern Michigan about June 10.
