Martha Ford Not 'Opposed' To The Lions Having Cheerleaders

One of the more popular complaints about the Detroit Lions is not the play on the field but who is on the sidelines of the field. The owners take a lot of heat, sure, and management, too, but many Lions fans seem to think that cheerleaders are the ones who will make this team win meaningful games.

There are six teams in the NFL without cheerleaders and the Lions might make that number five now. "Who do we want to win? The Lions! When do we want them to win? Now!"

This is according to the Detroit Free Press, which caught up with Lions president Rod Wood at the Taste of the Lions to dismiss the notion that Lions owner Martha Ford was the reason the team didn't have cheerleaders.

"I don't know where that gets reported," Wood said. "I think everything that we're considering is part of what the fans are interested in and if we're going to have cheerleaders, we're going to do it the right way and if we decide not to have them we'll talk about why we decided not to have them. It's not because of some preconceived notion that we can't do it."

Wood also added that the team hasn't made up their minds yet if the team will have cheerleaders.

"We want to do it (right) in terms of the style, the presentation on the field," Wood said. "There's a lot of legal issues in terms of how they're employed or not employed by the team, so it's not as easy as just having tryouts and having cheerleaders."

The Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants are the other teams who don't have cheerleaders.

Is it that important to you that the Lions have cheerleaders this upcoming season?
