MEDC Grant Will Allow For All Grey Poupon To Be Made In Michigan

HOLLAND, Mich. (WWJ) - Should more Grey Poupon be made in Michigan? But of course!

The Kraft Heinz Company is planning a $17.2 million expansion in Holland, which will make way for increased mustard making in the state.

The company's larger facility will allow for all of its production of Grey Poupon mustard to be happen in Michigan, according to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, after the MEDC approved a $500,000 grant for the project.

MEDC Vice President Josh Hundt says 50 new jobs will be added, ranging from production to management.

"Michigan's food processing business makes about $25 billion dollars of economic activity in a year and employs more than 130,000 residents," Hundt said. "Just seeing the continued growth of this continues to make Michigan one of the agriculture centers of North America."

Made with a small amount of white wine,  Grey Poupon is a brand of whole-grain and Dijon mustard popularized by in a long-running 1980s TV ad ["Pardon me. Do you have any Grey Poupon?].

Kraft Foods acquired Nabisco, including the Grey Poupon brand, in 1999; and Heinz merged with Kraft about a year ago.
