Body Of 3-Year-Old Boy Found In Midtown Detroit Apartment

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are looking for the parents of a 3-year-old boy found dead in a Detroit apartment.

According to police, the body was found on a bed in the residence, in the 4400 block of Trumbull near Canfield, by a maintenance man doing some work in the unit at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The apartment complex is located between Grand River Avenue and the Lodge, in the city's up-and-coming Midtown area.

Police said there were no adults with the boy, named Aaron, when he was found and they're now looking for his mother and father.

Assistant Detroit Police Chief LaShinda Stairs says the boy's mother was taken to the hospital on May 16.

"There was a call to these apartments - where there was a lady down in the grass, medics arrived and transported the young lady to DRH - the very next day she was transported over to hospital in Ann Arbor," said Stairs.

It's not known where she went after her release from the Ann Arbor hospital on May 24.

While there were no obvious signs of trauma to the boy's body police are investigating all possibilities said investigators.

"We won't know for several days," said Detroit Police Captain Darren Soligee, "until our medical examiner makes determination on a cause of death. It's a suspicious death right now and our detectives are working it -- we treat every suspicious death as if it could be a murder."

A friend of the family was outside the home Wednesday afternoon.

"I feel sad," he said. "The little boy didn't deserve that."

The boy's last name was not immediately released.
