Dearborn Heights Man Found Dead In Burning Car

ASH TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A burning car led to a grim discovery in a Monroe County field on Wednesday.

Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone says the fire — reported by a citizen at around 4:30 a.m., West Newburg Road near Burns Road — was extinguished by an Ash Township Fire Department crew which responded quickly to the scene.

That's when a body, later identified as that of a 28-year-old Dearborn Heights man, was found in driver's seat.

Malone said forensic evidence was collected at the scene and the remains were transported to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine manner and cause of death.

A revolver was found inside the vehicle, said Malone, and detectives are investigating the possibility that the man took his own life. They're also looking into the cause of the fire.

The man's name was not released.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Sheriff's Office detective bureau at 734-240-7530.
