Man Drowns While Swimming With Friend Near Traverse City

GREEN LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A 23-year-old man swimming with a friend has drowned in a lake in Grand Traverse County.

The sheriff's office says Anthony Racine struggled while swimming to an island Wednesday in Cedar Hedge Lake in Green Lake Township. Rescuers grabbed Racine's friend but couldn't save him.

Lt. Chris Barsheff says three people eventually pulled the Grawn man from the water. He tells the Traverse City Record-Eagle they "ought to be applauded" for risking their own safety.

Another swimmer at an inland lake died Tuesday in Washtenaw County's Ypsilanti Township.
