Detroit Signs Dylan Sadowy To Entry-Level Contract

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today signed left wing Dylan Sadowy to a three-year entry-level contract.

Originally drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the third round (81st overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Sadowy was acquired from San Jose by Detroit on May 26 in exchange for a third-round draft pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. The 20-year-old forward has spent the past four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League and surpassed the 40-goal plateau in each of his last two seasons, scoring 42 times and adding a career-best 32 assists in 65 games with the Saginaw Spirit in 2014-15 and notching 45 goals alongside 25 assists in 64 games split between Saginaw and the Barrie Colts in 2015-16. Sadowy picked up 34 points (20-14-34) and 31 penalty minutes with the Spirit prior to his midseason trade to Barrie, where he racked up 36 points (25-11-36) and 34 penalty minutes in 28 games and added five points (2-3-5) and 11 penalty minutes in eight playoff games.

Sadowy was also recognized by the OHL's annual coaches poll in each of the last two seasons. The 6-foot-1, 195-lb., winger was named third-most dangerous in the goal area and second-best penalty killer in the Western Conference in 2014-15 and the third-best shot blocker in the Eastern Conference in 2015-16. He also represented the OHL at the 2015 CHL Canada-Russia Series in November. In 258 career OHL games since 2012-13, Sadowy has tallied 188 points (116-72-188), a plus-23 rating and 245 penalty minutes.
