Ford Recalls More Vehicles To Fix Passenger Side Air Bags

DETROIT (WWJ) - Ford is recalling more vehicles for air bag issues.

The recall is part of a nationwide expansion of an ongoing Takata air bag recall, which was already the largest U.S. recall in history.

Certain Takata air bags can inflate with too much force and spew shrapnel into the vehicles. At least 11 deaths worldwide are related to the defect.

The latest cars and trucks recalled are Ford Edge, Fusion, Mustang, and Ranger vehicles that are roughly 5 to 10 years old. Also affected are Lincoln MKX, MKZ, Zephyr, and Mercury Milans from that same time frame.

The issue this time is with faulty passenger side airbag inflators. Ford says it's not aware of any injuries associated with this particular problem.

A total of 1,898,728 vehicles now are affected by this safety recall, including 1,896,443 in the U.S. and federalized territories, 1,304 in Canada and one in Mexico.

Dealers will replace the inflators at no charge.
