Appeal Delays Court Hearing For Mom Involved In Police Standoff

DETROIT (WWJ) - The woman embroiled in a legal challenge with the state and the legal system has yet another delay in the court process.

The long-running court case involving a Detroit mother, Maryanne Godboldo, who shot at police officers who were trying to remove her daughter from her home -- has been pushed back another ten days.  The years old case has been delayed due to appeals.

A judge granted a request to delay a motion to have assault charges against Godboldo thrown out.

The situation first caught headlines when Godboldo entered a standoff with Detroit Police in March 2011, that lasted nearly 12 hours. It began when the mom fired a shot at a Child Protection Service worker and a police escort who arrived at her home in an attempt to take her (then) 13-year-old daughter.

Godboldo claimed that police did not produce a warrant when they came to remove her daughter. Earlier this year, an appeals court ruled there was enough evidence to support criminal charges.

Maryanne Godboldo has said the state wanted her daughter to take a drug for psychosis, but she favors a holistic treatment.
