Another Former Detroit Principal Enters Plea In Bribery Case

DETROIT (AP) - An ex-Detroit Public Schools principal has pleaded guilty to bribery for her role in a kickback scheme.

Willye Pearsall appeared Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Detroit. She is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 7.

Pearsall is accused of taking $50,000 in kickbacks from Norman Shy and his Allstate Sales.

A dozen principals, a district administrator and Shy were charged in the case. Most of the principals, the administrator and Shy already have pleaded guilty.

Investigators say bogus invoices were submitted by school employees for chairs, paper and other supplies, some of which were never delivered.

The government says Shy paid about $900,000 in kickbacks. Allstate Sales received about $2.7 million from the district.

Pearsall was principal at Thurgood Marshall Elementary. She faces up to 37 months in prison.
