Permanent Lighting Coming To Michigan State's Spartan Stadium

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan State University's football stadium will install permanent lighting in time for the 2017 season.

The university's governing board on Wednesday approved the new lighting project for Spartan Stadium. The project could cost between $2.2 million and $2.5 million.

University president Lou Anna K. Simon says the project won't cost students anything because the athletic department's budget is "self-sufficient," meaning it doesn't come from the East Lansing school's general budget.

The university currently rents lights from other stadiums, one of the few Big Ten schools to do so. Simon says all Big Ten stadiums are now required to have permanent lights.
