Severe Thunderstorms Knock Down Trees In Western Michigan

MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) — Severe thunderstorms moving across the state knocked down trees and brought localized flooding and hail to parts of western Michigan.

Storms hit late Wednesday along Lake Michigan in the Muskegon area. MLive.com reports hundreds of power outages in the Muskegon and Grand Haven areas. Trees and branches came down on roadways, damaging vehicles and blocking traffic.

Statewide, major utilities reported at least about 10,000 outages. WWJ-AM reports tree damage in the Ann Arbor area led to power outages.

Wind gusts around 60 mph were reported in Muskegon and South Haven. They were more than 50 mph in Grand Rapids.

The storms lost strength as they moved across the state on Thursday morning. The National Weather Service says more rain showers and thunderstorm are expected throughout the day.
